The Underserved Population Program within Community Oncology at CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) offered a one-day educational program on Geriatric Oncology Principles. The clinical components were led by Dr. David Dawe, CCMB Medical Oncologist.
With the population increasingly ageing, the cancer burden amongst older adults is growing rapidly. Older patients with cancer have unique needs that are not present in younger patients. Oncologists will need to incorporate geriatric assessments and principles into daily practice in all oncology fields. Establishing a community of practice amongst all Manitoba clinicians who treat older patients with cancer will increasingly become an important component of care.
