Radiation Therapy Specific Programming at CCMB

  • The CCMB programming consists of a full-time program in radiation therapy, with one year of post-secondary University studies as pre-requisite requirements to Year II and including provisions to complete a 4-year B.Sc in RT offered through The University of Winnipeg. Currently, the average class size is 6-7 students per year.
  • All CCMB-specific courses and clinical placements are offered at CancerCare Manitoba, with two short placements at the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre in Brandon in Year IV of studies.
  • The RT Specific Programming offers both classroom and online courses, hands-on clinical placements, scheduled in blocks of time as shown below, noting that additional academic courses run concurrently with clinical courses:

This is a competency-based program, therefore courses include the concepts and theories behind radiation therapy (including physics, radiation biology and protection and imaging), patient care and professional practice. In clinical placements, students work side-by-side with practicing radiation therapists to learn the skills and attitudes required to be successful in this career.
