The Importance of Good Nutrition

Staying well-nourished before, during and after cancer treatment is important to improve or maintain your health, strength, and sense of well-being. Getting the proper nutrients can help your body stay strong, tolerate and complete treatment and assist with recovery after cancer treatment is finished.

Everyone’s experience with cancer is unique. While some individuals continue to enjoy eating, others may struggle with eating due to the side effects of their cancer, its treatment or the emotional effects that often accompany a cancer diagnosis.

Nutritional needs for people with cancer can vary depending on the type of cancer, cancer treatment and the overall health status of that individual. With all the information available on nutrition and cancer, finding appropriate and credible nutritional advice can be challenging and confusing.

Registered Dietitians at CancerCare Manitoba

The registered dietitians at CancerCare Manitoba have decades of experience working with cancer patients. They have regulated health professionals who are licensed to practice by the College of Registered Dietitians of Manitoba. Registered dietitians have the training and skills to provide individualized nutritional advice that is trust-worthy and supported by scientific evidence.

Working with other members of the healthcare team, registered dietitians provide one-on-one nutrition education to cancer patients and their caregivers. They also provide group classes on various nutrition-related topics and participate in the professional education of clinical staff and dietetic interns.
