Medical Devices is an ISO registered department within the Medical Engineering Group of the Medical Physics Division.

The department strives to provide the highest standard of service to our clients. This goal is achieved by a commitment to technical excellence and innovation and by fostering an environment in which trust and integrity, individuals' contributions are valued, and intra and inter-departmental teamwork is encouraged.

What is Medical Devices?

We are a custom design and manufacturing department specializing in the manufacture of custom clinical and physics testing equipment not commercially available, providing comprehensive service in repair, equipment modification, mechanical design and prototyping of equipment for treatment, quality assurance and research.

While our primary responsibility is to the departments of Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine and Division of Medical Physics , we offer our design and manufacturing expertise to outside clients.

Product development is supported by CAD/CAM and 3D software and manufactured in a fully equipped modern machine shop with CNC (computer numerically controlled) machining capabilities.

The workshop is also capable of handling light fabrication and welding projects.

Clinical Support

Our ISO certified Medical Devices Department supports our Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine programs by:

  • Using a computerized manufacturing process for the manufacture of patient compensators.
  • Design and manufacture of custom treatment aids for patients and devices for clinical physics quality assurance program.
  • Providing mechanical repair and modification services for treatment equipment such as Linear Accelerators, Gamma cameras and accessories.

Vault Door - This shows a vault door that has been retrofitted with a new drive system and a new computer system.

Mini Scan Tank - This tank is used in the calibration of the linear accelerators. It is modeled from a much larger version. The small size allows quicker scans and easier handling larger version.

Research & Product Development

  • Provide design services for Development and Research
  • Build Prototypes

Automated Compensator Exchanger - This device is shown placed in the area of the multileaf collimator on a linear accelerator. It has seven positions for loading compensators.

Beam View Imaging Phantom - This device is used to calibrate the beam views on the linear accelerators.

Innovative Products

Our ISO certified Medical Devices Department has designed and developed a superior range of products for use in Physics Departments and other areas of health care. These products are illustrated in our catalogue.

Should you have a need for a specialized item or a prototype to be designed and built please contact us and we will be happy to be of service.

The following is a list of some of our products illustrated in our catalogue.

Laser Marking Couch

Laser Marking Couch -This unit is used to remark patients instead of setting them up on a simulator.

Flood Phantom Mixing Tank Assembly

Flood Phantom Mixing Tank Assembly - This device is a lead lined storage area mounted to a special cart. The fluid in the mixing tank is radioactive and must be shielded. It is rocked to mix the fluids.

Neonatal Transport Unit

Neonatal Transport Unit - A compact transporter for neonates in and out of remote areas. Designed for use in small aircraft, trucks, boats or sleighs.

Motorized Neonatal Transporter

Neonatal Ground Unit - This unit is used to transport babies. It has a battery power pack that drives an electric motor. It also has a life support system on it.

Special I.V. Pole

I.V. Stand - This stand is profiled in such a way that it allows the instruments attached to it to sit over the center of gravity. This makes for a very stable stand.
